Used motorcycle inspection: look beyond clean bodywork
Cold start, leaks, brakes, tyres, drivetrain, electrics and chassis evidence deserve a combined check.
Whenever possible, see the motorcycle with a genuinely cold engine. First start, idle quality, smoke, unusual noise and behaviour as it warms provide useful evidence.
Check oil and coolant leaks, brakes, tyre age and wear, chain and sprockets or CVT, suspension, steering play and electrical functions.
If there is evidence of repair, misalignment or impact around the chassis and mounting points, a more detailed physical inspection matters more than cosmetic appearance.
This is general technical guidance. Torque values, service limits, pressures and parts compatibility must be confirmed for the exact model and year.
