Engine Noise and Running Character
For a useful diagnosis of an abnormal noise, it matters whether it occurs cold or hot, at idle or under load, and whether it is tied to a particular rpm range.
What is reviewed?
- Compare cold and warm running
- Observe noise across idle and rpm changes
- Note symptoms that change under load
- Rule out loose external components
- Consider lubrication and mechanical history
Model-specific limit: A remote audio recording may help with triage, but definitive mechanical diagnosis requires physical inspection.
